Draw introduced for SAFF U16, U19 Championships

New Delhi, July 22 – The draw for the SAFF U16 Championship 2023 and SAFF U19 Championship 2023 was performed on the BFF Home in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Saturday.

Within the U16 occasion, India had been positioned in Group A alongside Nepal and Bangladesh. Hosts Bhutan, Maldives and Pakistan had been drawn in Group B. The SAFF U16 Championship will happen on the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu from September 1-10, 2023.

The India U19s had been drawn alongside Bhutan and Bangladesh in Group B, whereas hosts Nepal, Maldives and Pakistan made up Group A. The SAFF U19 Championship 2023 can be held on the Dashrath Stadium in Kathmandu from September 21-30, 2023.

The format of each competitions is similar. After a single round-robin group stage, the highest two groups from each teams will meet within the semi-finals, the winners of which is able to contest the ultimate.

India emerged as champions of each SAFF youth tournaments held in 2022 for the U20 and U17 age teams. The India U20s thrashed Bangladesh 5-2 within the ultimate in Bhubaneswar, whereas the U17s cruised previous Nepal 4-0 within the summit conflict in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
